Haiti is a country in distress beyond comprehension. The capital, Port-au-Prince, and the surrounding areas have been horribly decimated by the earthquake and aftershocks that occurred on January 12, 2010. Our Eden Garden Orphanage located in Montrouis, Haiti, is located approximately 50 miles north of Port-au-Prince. The orphanage survived the earthquake with minimal damage and all of the children are safe. However, Jean-Claude, our Haitian director for the orphanage still remains unaccounted for (he resides in Port-au-Prince).
We thank God for keeping the children safe through this tragedy and are praying for the safety of Jean-Claude. However, this tragedy does not end with just the earthquake. As the country begins to recover from this disaster, there is certain to be shortages of food, clean water, and other items essential for survival. Thousands of people need shelter. Demand for these essential items will cause prices to increase for people who were barely surviving before the earthquake.
A 31 person mission team from the New Hope Adventist Church in Fulton, Maryland www.newhopesoshaiti.blogspot.com was scheduled to fly to Haiti on January 13 to drill water wells at Eden Garden Orphanage, conduct medical clinics and engage in other humanitarian activities in the communities surrounding the orphanage. In anticipation of this mission trip, Charles & Gigi LeMorzellec, founders of the orphanage, had already traveled to Haiti earlier this week. They are currently safe at the orphanage and already evaluating how Eden Garden Orphanage can help those in need in the surrounding communities.
In order to sustain the orphanage operations and help the surrounding communities, Eden Garden Orphanage seeks to raise $200,000. These funds will be used to ensure the continued security of the children and staff of the orphanage. In addition, with Charles and Gigi on the ground in Haiti, we are assessing ways that Eden Garden Orphanage can help meet the huge needs in the surrounding area. People know that Eden Garden Orphanage helps those in need and we want to be able to respond to the requests that are sure to come. These additional funds will allow us to make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors at a time when all seems lost.
We ask that you do the following:
• Pray for the people of Haiti as they recover from this tragedy.
• Pray for the continued safety of the children of Eden Garden Orphanage and for Jean-Claude, our director.
• Consider making an immediate donation to help our children and the people of Haiti during this time of crisis. You may donate online by going to www.edengardenorphanage.info and clicking on the “Donate” button.
With God’s help, Eden Garden Orphanage remains committed to serving the children and people of Haiti. Thank you for your prayers and support.
